Looking to stretch your dollar on a new computer this back-to-school season? Amazon just made a Mashable's Choice Award-winning Apple iMac cheaper than some of its newer MacBooks.
As of Aug. 9, you can snag a mid-range configuration of last year's 24-inch iMac(opens in a new tab) for just $1,349.99. (Note the extra $100 discount applied at checkout.) That's 10% off its suggested retail price of $1,499 and a match of its record low from earlier this year, according to the price-tracking site camelcamelcamel(opens in a new tab).
Not every desktop machine is up to the task of being a family computer, but this one happens to fit that bill to a tee. "In addition to being offered in seven different colors," writes former Mashable tech reporter Brenda Stolyar — you can choose from purple, yellow, or orange as part of Amazon's deal — the 24-inch iMac packs the powerful original M1 chip, "allowing for a super-thin, sleek, and lightweight form factor."
"Throw in a 1080p camera for all those video chats, a 4.5K Retina display for binging Netflix, Touch ID built into the Magic Keyboard to easily switch between user profiles and input passwords, to name a few," she adds, "and you've got yourself the ideal at-home iMac."
Other goodies from its spec sheet include an 8-core GPU, two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, two USB 3 ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
