It’s shifted from its roots as a dating app to being more community-focused now. You can get started on the app with just your Facebook profile. From there, you can find singles, friends, and professional contacts — chat with others in groups, check out reviews, post photos, and even find local dispensaries. You are only given five questions about your personality, cannabis consumption, and what you’re looking for in matches before you can start meeting and chatting with other like-minded singles. 

Why it works: High There! is often said to be the "Tinder for weed smokers" because it’s pretty similar in mechanics. You scroll through other users on the app who are in your area and can then “say hi” to them, which means you’re interested in connecting with them. The interface on the app is very similar to Tinder: You swipe right or left to express interest in a profile or not, and there’s also a messaging feature built into the app. Keep an eye out for fake or dodgy profiles, though — the site is riddled with fake profiles, bots, and inactive members.

There's an option to upgrade to 420 Premium for $10.49 per month, which allows you to chat with users even if you haven't matched with them yet. The gist: The tried and true dating site has been matching singles online since 2004, and it still remains hugely popular with users thanks to a sleek interface, a great algorithm that relies on fun questions, and a large user base looking for all types of relationships. The questionnaire asks about your personality, physical appearance, sexual preferences, education, and relationship with weed. 

Why it works: While the questions are optional, making it great if you don’t want to invest an eharmony-level ton of time when you want something casual, be sure to answer at least the 420 one to help you find other pot lovers.

After you fine-tune your profile and upload a few photos, you can match with waiting singles. 

Best yet, one super-easy way to find other cannabis fans that Okcupid offers members is a feature where you can search for keywords in people’s profiles, such as "420," "weed," and "cannabis."

The cost: OkCupid is free to download and use, but there's also the option of paid Basic or Premium subscriptions, offered in one-, three-, or six-month durations. Basic subscribers can send unlimited likes, filter out dealbreakers, and eliminate ads. Premium users will get an added list of people who like them and see other users' responses to new questions. Paid subscriptions range from $22.49 per month up to $44.99.

The gist: With Date420Friendly.com(opens in a new tab), you no longer have to feel awkward on a first date when you tell them that you enjoy consuming marijuana — after all, it’s kinda in the name, and all sorts of medicinal and recreational users sign up to try their luck here. Date420Friendly.com wants you to "enjoy the highs in life" by meeting new people, playing fun games, joining group discussions, and attending 420-friendly events and meet-and-greets. The site is also a resource for finding new jobs as it works as a sort of classifieds page for the 420 community. If marijuana is a big part of your life, then Date420Friendly.com is your dating site.

Why it works: Setting up a profile is pretty easy, with basic information like gender, who you’re looking for, and what you’re on the site for (“fun,” “whatever,” “dating,” “friendship” — ”relationship” isn’t an option). You also answer other lifestyle questions like “favorite way to spend time,” how much you drink, and questions about physical characteristics like body type and hair color. Once you upload a photo of yourself and write a short bio, you’re taken to your dashboard, which feels very early 2000s  —  as if it was from the MySpace and Friendster era of social networking. Unfortunately, there is no mobile app available.

Signing up is free, but you really can’t do anything on the site, like sending messages or interacting with other users, until you upgrade your subscription. It seems like a big commitment to upgrade when you don’t know if the dating site is worth using altogether — and the site itself seems neglected. 

The cost: Date420Friendly.com is free, but using the site requires premium access. A one-month subscription is $4.20 (of course it is), while one year is only $21. You can also pay for five months of access and get seven months for free.

The gist: Zoosk(opens in a new tab) started out as a Facebook application (remember those?) in 2007 but has since spun off into its own platform and mobile app. It might not have the presence of Tinder, but there’s a decently sized scene on the app: Zoosk boasts more than 35 million singles spread throughout over 80 countries. It’s known for its ease of use in creating an account and its modern design navigation. 

The dating site doesn’t want you to spend your time filling out questionnaires but instead wants you to start matching and meeting new people right away —  in this case, those in the 420-friendly community. With that big of a user base, there are likely a few potential matches near you who like to light up.  

Why it works: Zoosk caters to almost all communities by keeping its user base big and robust. While they don’t explicitly have a "420" setting in search, you can filter your matches to find cannabis-friendly people like you. Zoosk offers an option for "smokes regularly," which, while it could mean cigarettes, can also be a strong indication for 420 consumption — something you can easily clear up in the chat since you already know the other person smokes something. However, while Zoosk makes it easy to start a profile and search for matches, the online dating app is notorious for its amount of fake and inactive users. Not as porn-y as AdultFriendFinder, but just the right amount of risqué and is effective in almost the same way (not as large of a user base to pick from). Like AdultFriend Finder, everyone is here for the same thing (hint: it’s not to find love), and there’s a matchmaking algorithm that takes answers to questions about dirty talk and fetishes in mind — but keep in mind it’s super easy for people to exaggerate here.

But it plays well to its strengths (i.e. you can get stoned and chat with potential partners without ever leaving the house). Just make sure to be a little more lenient with your search radius, or you might get stuck with a big fat "zero" on your match count.

The gist: While plenty of more "classic" dating apps out there will work well for those in the cannabis community, Hinge(opens in a new tab) separates itself from the bunch as the only "relationship app" that matches singles. Hinge was re-launched in 2016 as a very low-pressure dating app focusing on fun information and photos instead of the swiping model. Why it works: The Hinge app(opens in a new tab) is designed for more interaction and engagement than any other dating app. While it still has users' photos and biographical info to swipe through, it also goes the extra mile to make sure it’s easy for users to connect over things like video question prompts and trivia-style questions users can answer and post in their profile. If you like to take a toke and then have a great conversation, Hinge will help you find a pretty ideal smoking partner — and as the app that’s “designed to be deleted,” Hinge is definitely hoping the smoke sesh turns into a little more than that. 

While you can’t directly search for 420-friendly matches, it features a section for "vices," including alcohol, smoking, marijuana, and harder drugs. Hinge has its own data on how that affects your prospects too: Revealing you’re a cannabis enthusiast might increase your chances of receiving matches by 10 percent, but only if you’re under 25 years old, according to a study from Hinge. Just about anyone looking for any companionship, friendship, or relationship can find it on Plenty of Fish — and yes, it’s cannabis friendly, too.

Just know that you’ll want to get comfortable when you sign up for a profile: A long personality assessment will take about 20 minutes to do with the rest of your account setup. However, the initial investment is worth it: Plenty of Fish rewards users with features that most apps make you pay more for, like messaging, matching, testimonials, favorites, and more (that’s not to say you can’t upgrade for more, though). 

Why it works: Plenty of Fish(opens in a new tab)  is a good alternative to OkCupid and Zoosk — in terms of dating apps, they’re all kind of in the same “tier.” 

While you can search by location, age, and gender, you can also search by interests like "420-friendly" and "cannabis." You’d be surprised how many people who use the dating site are weed enthusiasts or use marijuana regularly. Although Plenty of Fish wasn’t created with cannabis in mind, it was built in a broad way so that singles have developed a category for it based on their interests.
