Today, Tinder introduces Relationship Goals, a new profile feature for users to show off their intentions. From friends to a long-term partner, you'll now be able to signal what you're looking for on the app.

This is a typical feature on other major dating apps like Bumble and Hinge, but considering Tinder's long-standing reputation as a more casual place, Relationship Goals is sure to shake up some people's usage. In a recent test in select markets, over half of Tinder users added Relationship Goals to their profile, the app reported.

Relationship Goals was developed in response to a shift in Tinder users, especially young singles, according to vice president of core product Kyle Miller in a press release. As revealed in Tinder's 2022 Year in Swipe, 73 percent of users aged 18-25 want someone who is clear about what they want. It's part of a larger trend of daters homing in on their priorities and what matters.

"Relationship Goals gives members more control over their interactions and allows them to match with more intention, without missing out on a connection they wouldn’t have made anywhere else," Miller said.

How to add a Relationship Goal to your Tinder profile

Tinder members have six options to choose from: Long-term partner; Long-term, Open to short; Short-term, Open to long; Short-term fun; New Friends; or Still figuring it out.

Tap into your profile settings to choose a goal; you can choose one at a time, but can change it whenever you'd like. You'll receive a prompt every week checking in to see if your Relationship Goals is still what you're looking for, as priorities can shift quickly.

As you swipe, you'll be able to see what potential matches have selected in order to match others with aligned goals.

The rollout of Relationship Goals begins today for all U.S. users, and will be available globally by Jan. 5.
